Volleyball Wins Area Championship

Ashville Volleyball defeats Leeds to take the Area Championship and move on to AHSAA Super Regionals in Huntsville.

The Ashville volleyball team defeated Childersburg and Leeds on Monday night to secure the class 4A Region 9 championship. "It feels great to win this tournament," Head Coach Mara Mattison said after the game. "These girls have worked hard this summer and to finally have this trophy in our hands is like the icing on the cake."

The Bulldogs started the night against Childersburg in the first game. They swept this series, winning each game by a large margin.

The championship game was between Ashville and Leeds, two teams who had split in the regular season and were the top two teams in the area, played one another in the second game. The Bulldogs proceeded to sweep the Green Wave by scores of 26-24, 25-18, and 25-19. The win clinched a number one seed for the Bulldogs at the Super Regional tournament in Huntsville this weekend.

"I'm really proud of them for earning a higher seed tonight. It's not going to be easy playing on a big court, which is something we're not used to, but I think we'll do fine."

Ashville will play at 12:30 PM on Thursday to start off AHSAA Super Regional action. The game will be at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
