Ashville Football Participates in John Grass JSU Football Camp

The Ashville football team began their first day of a two day camp at Jacksonville State University today with indy drills and a reunion . . . of sorts. Former Ashville head coach and Ashville alum, John Grass, visited with Ashville's coaching staff throughout the day, talking about the Bulldogs and the upcoming season.

"We love the opportunity to visit with Coach Grass and his staff. They are well educated in the game of football and have a tremendous amount of knowledge to teach to our young team," said Ashville head coach Steve Martin. "The staff here and the university has been so gracious to us, and we cannot convey how much this helps prepare everyone for the season ahead."

Throughout the day, each player received one-on-one time with a JSU staffer and rounded out the day with an 11-on-11 matchup between teams. The Bulldogs come away from today with more knowledge about the X's and O's of the sport, while participating with some of their football opponents and peers.

Seven teams were present at today's camp, five of whom are from Alabama with one from Tennessee and one from Georgia. St. Clair County's own Victory Christian School was present at today's camp, with head coach and Ashville alum Mark Sanders leading the way.

To see several Ashville legends, including Coach Grass and Coach Sanders, huddled together and working to promote the sport that is so cherished in this part of the country was surreal and special.

"I hope we can return next year and continue to build this program. Coach Grass is an invaluable asset to us, and we greatly appreciate his support."

Ashville starts their regular season on August 26, 2016 against Ragland.
