The 2019 St. Clair County Football Media Day was held Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Buffalo Wild Wings in Pell City, Alabama, and Ashville High School Head Football Coach Barry Simmons had an opportunity to address the 2019 football season and what he potentially sees in this fall’s edition of the Bulldogs.
When asked what the number one goal of this season is for the team, Coach Simmons said that it was to, "...have a winning season and make the playoffs; that's always our goal."
The Bulldogs are in Class 4A, Region 6, which includes Oneonta, Hokes Bluff, Cherokee County, Cleburne County, Jacksonville, White Plains, and Anniston. The Bulldogs also face off against county rivals Ragland and Springville through the first half of the season.
Coach Simmons stressed that finishing was the emphasis for this year, whether it be finishing each play or finishing each game the right way. Simmons went on to promise that the Bulldogs will have an up-tempo style of offense and defense which will be able to physically dominate both sides of the line of scrimmage.
Accompanying Coach Simmons at media day were Bulldog seniors Hunter Hirsch and Cam Tillman. They discussed a vigorous offseason workout and conditioning program as well as the 21-0 spring game victory over the Southside Panthers of Gadsden. The Bulldog offense had a total of 352 yards of offense that included 32 plays gaining 10 or more yards. The Ashville Bulldogs open the 2019 season at home on August 23rd at Kin Logan Stadium against the Ragland Purple Devils.
