Ashville's New Principal Arrives

Meet the Principal

After six years as Ashville High School's leader, Patti Johnson steps down and another Johnson steps up. Janet Johnson comes to Ashville from Clay-Chalkville Middle School where she has served for nine years as assistant principal. Before she became an administrator, she spent 19 years teaching at Hewitt-Trussville Junior High School. She has been influenced by Lawrence Carter, Jan Dennis, and Jane Baker, educators who have all shown exemplary organization, leadership, and management skills in the Jefferson County School System.

Johnson has many things she wants to accomplish as the principal at Ashville High School, but the first and most important is building relationships. She wants to start by getting to know parents, students, faculty, and the people of the Ashville community. "I am a parent person; my door is always open. Communication is big for me."

When it comes to high school athletics, Johnson is a huge fan, "I am a huge athletics fan. Both of my children participated in athletics in school, so any kind of club, athletics team, or organizations that kids can get involved in really can make better students; they're a part of something, and it enriches their lives."

Johnson is a graduate of Minor High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in Science Education at UAB, and her master's degree at the University of Alabama. She has a son and a daughter, and she has been happily married to her husband, Dusty Johnson, for 30 years.
