Jr. High Girls Win Championship

The Ashville Jr. High Girls' Basketball team finished first in the St. Clair County Jr. High Basketball Tournament hosted at Ashville High School on Saturday.

This is Coach Allie Davis' first stint as a basketball coach anywhere, telling us she was very proud of what the girls had done for Ashville Middle School and the community of Ashville. "We love this community, we love this sport, and these girls worked hard for this," Davis said in her postgame interview.

Ashville Varsity and JV Girls' Coach Heath Lauderdale worked with the Jr. High Girls, noting their determination and perseverance after their championship win. "They started working in the summer, working out, staying together, buying into the program here at Ashville. Coach Davis was gracious enough to allow me the opportunity to help during the offseason, and the girls have worked hard to understand the fundamentals of the game and win."

Ashville Middle's Meghan McCarthy, Callie Stewart, Carley Thomason, and Audrey Lauderdale were named All-County players with Audrey Lauderdale named as the tournament's MVP.

When asked about Ashville Basketball's future at the JV and Varsity level, Coach Lauderdale responded,"We have a bright future ahead. The Ashville tradition of winning championships will continue."
